The Most Valuable Portrait
Celebrating Unpaid Carers – A Tribute in Paint and Purpose
This week, we’re highlighting ‘The Most Valuable Portrait’, a campaign by Specsavers Home Visits and Carers UK. The campaign features a painting of Jaycee, a carer, by famous artist Colin Davidson. She represents the millions of unpaid carers across the UK who quietly care for others every day.
The painting has been given a symbolic value of £184 billion (the same amount that unpaid carers contribute to the UK each year). That’s about the same as the entire NHS. It’s a way to show how important carers really are.
Most unpaid carers in the UK are women. They often care for family members while also working, raising children, or managing a home. This campaign gives carers (especially women) the recognition they deserve. It helps more people understand that care work is valuable, not just at home but across the whole country.
By using art and facts, it shows that unpaid care is work that holds up our society. The portrait helps start new conversations about care, and the Carers Hub offers real support to those who need it.
This is a brilliant example of how we can celebrate women, support carers, and change how care is seen.
